Getting fit doesn’t have to mean endless hours, week after week cooped up in a sweaty gym pounding away on the treadmill. Check out these top venues in the North to get out and have some fun while increasing your fitness at the same time. Arrange to try these out with a group of friends and double the fun. You won’t even know you are working out but be warned as some of the activities may get slightly addictive!!

Escape at Castleford

SNO!Zone is the UK’s leading indoor snow slope based within Escape at Castleford near Leeds. You don’t need any previous skiing or snowboarding experience to use the slopes and lessons are available. Skiing is great exercise to work your thighs and core as well as building your basic fitness levels.

Tees Barrage International White Water Centre

The Tees barrage near Middlesbrough originally opened in 1995 but has just undergone a £4.6 million refurbishment. There is a range of water sports to enable you to challenge your body, mind and often your courage! From flat water kayaking to white water rafting they pretty much have water sport covered.

The Foundry Climbing Centre

First opened in 1991 this Sheffield climbing centre offers beginners and experts, world class facilities to climb indoors. If you have never climbed before it is a great upper body workout and a lot of fun!
The circuits are reset every few months so you don’t have chance to figure out the easy route to the top. Don’t use a fear of heights to avoid trying this one out; the added adrenaline will give you an even bigger work out!!

Edgy City Cycling tours

If you are visiting Liverpool forget about sightseeing buses and see the city by cycle!! You can use one of their bikes or use your own for discount. As well as getting some fresh air and physical activity you can have a nice smug feeling knowing that some profits from the company are reinvested to support cycling projects within disadvantaged areas of the city.
